What board does Dead Canary start on?
Released in December 2022, this game starts on a 3-4-3-4-3-4 reel layout, but about half of it is blocked by barricades at first. Each time a win lands or Wild Mining or an xBomb goes off, blocked cells break and the playable space grows. RTP is 96.02%, volatility is high, and hit frequency is 26.2%. With its black comedy tone featuring a canary and a dwarf, the mood is actually on the lighter side.
Does anything happen when there is no win?
Yes, Wild Mining plays that role. When there is no winning combination and 3 to 5 symbols of the same payout land diagonally, those symbols disappear and wild bombs are created in the center spots. You get 1 for 3 symbols, 2 for 4, and 3 for 5. The moment a board that looked like a dead spin suddenly turns into a chain is the charm of this game.
How do xBomb wilds raise the multiplier?
xBomb wilds substitute for every symbol except scatters, and when they explode they blast neighboring symbols in a cross shape. Each explosion raises the win multiplier of the next collapse by 1. If there are several, they all explode together before the next collapse. Turning on xBet costs 40% extra and guarantees 1 scatter and the first barricade removal.
What changes in the Canary Free Spins?
3 scatters start the Canary Free Spins, and the board changes to 4-3-4-3-4-3-4 with locked vaults in the four corners. The vaults collect coins and multipliers from the three neighboring cells and open with an xBomb explosion. The scatters that triggered the feature stay as canaries in silver and gold cages and collect values: silver collects from nearby diagonal cells, while gold collects along the entire diagonal line. Free spins come around once every 197 spins.
How realistic is the max win?
The max win of 65,000x has odds of about 1 in 7 million, and if you pass that cap the round ends and 65,000x is paid. A win of 100x or more comes around once every 903 spins. Bonus buy is available at 68x to 500x your base bet, and the bet range is 0.2 to 100. If you have played Misery Mining, which features the same dwarves, this Nolimit City slot works well as a follow-up story.
Pros
- Wild Mining creates wilds even with no win
- Collapse multiplier that builds with each explosion
- A layered bonus where vaults and canary cages overlap
Cons
- The narrow starting board can make early spins feel stuffy
- The vault rules are complex, so the flow is hard to grasp at first
