Overview

Slot providers sometimes name and trademark the game structures they create. Some, like Megaways, are even licensed out to other providers. This page is a roundup of provider-specific mechanics and jackpot brands whose meaning is hard to guess from the name alone.

A trademarked name does not make a mechanic mathematically better. Every mechanic simply changes “how wins are shown” within the game’s fixed RTP and volatility.

Reel and grid mechanics

A structure where the reel shape or symbol size changes.

Mega Clusters

Megaclusters

A structure where symbols used in a cluster win split into four smaller symbols.

A mechanic from Big Time Gaming. When symbols in a cluster win disappear, the cells they occupied split into 4 smaller cells, so the grid gets finer and the number of winning combinations grows.

Infinity Reels

Infinity Reels

A structure where a new reel is added each time a win reaches the rightmost reel.

A mechanic created by ReelPlay, a studio in Sydney, Australia, which first appeared in November 2019 as “El Dorado Infinity Reels.” When a win reaches the last reel, a new reel is added on the right, and the reels keep extending for as long as wins continue. In many games, the multiplier grows as the reels increase.

GigaBlox

GigaBlox

A structure where giant symbols up to 4x4 in size drop onto the reels.

A mechanic from Yggdrasil. Large block symbols from 2×2 up to 4×4 drop alongside regular symbols, filling several cells with the same symbol at once. There is also a “Gigablox Split” variant in which the giant symbols break apart.

Splitz

Splitz

A structure where symbols split and the grid grows.

A mechanic from Yggdrasil in which symbols split into two or more under certain conditions, increasing the number of positions on the reels. The more positions, the more ways to win.

PopWins

PopWins

A structure where winning symbols pop and turn into two new symbols, growing the grid.

A mechanic created by the Malta-based studio AvatarUX. When a winning symbol “pops,” two new symbols appear in its place, the reels grow taller, and the number of ways to win keeps increasing. It is used in games with “~Pop” names such as CherryPop and PopRocks. It combines a tumble with grid expansion.

Avalanche

NetEnt's name for winning symbols breaking and new symbols dropping from above.

A name made known by NetEnt‘s Gonzo’s Quest. Winning symbols break and disappear, new symbols fall from above, and the multiplier rises with each consecutive win. It is a prominent early example of what we now call tumble or cascade structures.

DuelReels

DuelReels

A structure where two wilds face off and the winner's multiplier applies.

A mechanic from Hacksaw Gaming. When two duel symbols land together, the two symbols face off in an animation, and the winner becomes a wild reel with a multiplier.

Jackpot and Reward Brands

Names of jackpots or reward features shared across multiple games.

Daily Drop

Red Tiger's jackpot that is guaranteed to drop within a set time.

A jackpot brand from Red Tiger. It includes jackpots that must drop before a set time each day and jackpots that must drop before reaching a certain amount (must-drop jackpot).

Dream Drop

Dream Drop

Relax Gaming's network progressive jackpot.

A jackpot brand from Relax Gaming. It is a progressive jackpot linking many casinos and games, and its biggest tier can grow to several million euros.

Mega Moolah

Mega Moolah

Microgaming's flagship progressive jackpot slot.

Microgaming‘s slot and jackpot brand with an African safari theme. It is a progressive jackpot that pools bets from many casinos into one prize, and with wins worth tens of millions of euros on record, it is called the “Millionaire Maker.”

WowPot

The high-value jackpot brand of Games Global (formerly Microgaming).

A progressive jackpot from Games Global, which took over Microgaming’s games. Its signature feature is a top-tier jackpot that starts at several million to tens of millions of euros.

Cash Collect

Cash Collect

Playtech's money symbol collection feature brand.

A feature name from Playtech. When cash symbols and collector symbols land together, the cash symbol values are gathered and paid out (Money Collection). The same name is used across games with different themes.

Fire Blaze

Playtech's respin and jackpot feature brand.

A series name from Playtech. It uses a Hold & Spin-style structure in which you collect fire symbols and respin, along with jackpots.
