RTP Versions Variable RTP Versions
Even for the same slot, a provider may build several RTP levels and let each casino pick one. For example, there may be 96.5%, 95.5%, and 94.5% versions: the screen looks the same, but the long-term return rate differs.

Overview
Many online slots don’t have just one RTP. The provider makes the same game in multiple RTP versions, and the casino (operator) picks one of them to offer. For example, a game might have 96.5%, 95.5%, 94.5%, and 92% versions. Even with the same graphics, features, and max win, the long-term return rate differs.
Why make multiple versions
| Reason | Description |
|---|---|
| Taxes by country | Places where bets are taxed, like Germany, or where tax rates are high, like Pennsylvania, may require a lower RTP |
| Regulatory standards | Minimum RTP requirements differ by country |
| Operator strategy | Casinos that give out a lot of bonuses lower the RTP, while casinos that advertise RTP use the higher version |
| Jackpot and partnership costs | Reflects jackpot contributions, marketing costs, and so on |
How they’re made
Most RTP versions are made by leaving the screen as is and changing only the probability table. They adjust numbers such as the symbol count on the reel strips (virtual reels and reel strips), multiplier probabilities inside the bonus, and bonus entry probability. That is why players can’t tell which version it is just by looking at the screen.
How big is the difference
A 1 to 2 percentage point RTP difference looks small, but it adds up over a long session. Let’s compare the average loss for 10,000 spins at 1,000 KRW each (total bets of 10 million KRW).
| RTP Versions | House edge | Average loss (total bets of 10 million KRW) |
|---|---|---|
| 96.5% | 3.5% | 350,000 KRW |
| 95.5% | 4.5% | 450,000 KRW |
| 94.5% | 5.5% | 550,000 KRW |
| 92.0% | 8.0% | 800,000 KRW |
The difference between 96.5% and 94.5% is 2 percentage points in RTP, but 1.6 times in average loss. In the short run luck has a far bigger effect, but the longer you play, the more this difference shows up as is.
How to check
- Check the “theoretical RTP” or “Return to Player” entry in the in-game info (i) or help screen.
- For games with a bonus buy feature, the RTP of the buy feature is sometimes listed separately.
- The RTP on a provider’s official site is usually the highest base version, so it may differ from the actual casino version.
The RTP shown on AI Slot free slot pages is the default value published by the provider. It’s good to know that the game you play at a real casino may be a different version.
