Mahjong 88

Mahjong 88 is an Asian-themed slot that brings the fun of the classic tile game mahjong to an 8×8 grid. It was released on May 2, 2019, and with the free demo you can try the mahjong tile grid right away with no sign-up.

What is special about the Mahjong 88 grid?

According to the official description, this is the first 8×8 grid title, and instead of symbols dropping from above, they are revealed all at once from below the grid. The 64 cells appear as if flipping over at the same time, which feels like laying out mahjong tiles. It is a Play’n GO slot that adds a fresh presentation to a familiar cluster structure. The symbol design resembling mahjong tiles also brings out the theme nicely.

How do you make a win?

It uses clusters instead of paylines. When 4 or more of the same symbol connect horizontally or vertically, you get a basic win. On a wide 8×8 grid, there are plenty of chances for the same symbols to link up here and there, and a wild can make a cluster grow in an instant. Because the grid is so wide, scenes where several small clusters form at the same time are common. It’s also fun to guess where the wilds will land.

How do the four seasonal wilds differ?

The Spring Wild is added to the grid at random, and the Summer Wild smashes neighboring symbols as it enters. The Autumn Wild drops down the grid and destroys a few symbols, while the Winter Wild stays locked in place even when it is part of a winning cluster. All of them can substitute for every symbol. The Winter Wild in particular keeps sticking around and reliably carries you through to the next win.

How do the seasons change?

While you play Mahjong 88, the seasons change one after another, and the wild that shows up on the grid depends on the current season. That means even the same grid can play out in completely different ways depending on the timing. It’s fun to watch the season indicator on screen and try to predict the next wild. Each time the season changes, the mood of the grid shifts along with it.

What should I check first in the demo?

The RTP is 94.63%, and the max win is 5,000x your bet. Bonus buy is not available, so you have to meet the seasonal wilds and features as you play. There is no official volatility figure, so try the demo and compare how much each season’s wild changes the results to get a feel for it. Be sure to check the scenes where the Winter Wild locks in place too.
