Max Win Caps Explained - What “Up to 10,000x” Really Means

What is the “Win up to 10,000x bet” on a slot start screen measured against, what happens when you hit it, and how likely is it really? We go case by case using official demo screens, server data and figures for 3,701 games.

Key Takeaways

  • The max win multiplier is measured on the total (base) bet shown at the bottom of the screen, not the line bet.
  • Once the cap is reached the round ends immediately and any remaining free spins or features are forfeited. That sentence appears word for word in Pragmatic Play’s rules screens.
  • Pragmatic Play’s official demo server also sends a max win probability. Gates of Olympus is 1 in 697,350 spins; Gates of Olympus Super Scatter is 1 in 666,666,667.
  • Across 3,701 games on AI Slot the median max win is 6,091x, and the median for high volatility games (10,000x) is 2.5 times that of low volatility games (4,000x).

Open a Pragmatic Play slot and the start screen shows a big line such as “Win up to 10,000x bet”. That number is the max win: the ceiling on what one round can pay, written as a multiple of the bet. The number itself is simple, but the screen does not say what it is a multiple of, what happens at the cap, whether the basis changes with an ante bet or a bonus buy, or how likely it is to ever get there.

This guide fills those gaps with nine real games. Sources are the rules screens of Pragmatic Play’s official demos (checked on 3 November 2026), the game info the demo server sends, provider press releases and AI Slot’s game data. The basic definition is in the wiki entry Max Win.

The Max Win Case File

RTP and max win for the nine games below come from AI Slot’s game data. The max win probability in the last column is the value Pragmatic Play’s official demo server sends as game info; in some jurisdictions it is shown on screen as “1 in X spins”.

Rule 1. The Multiplier Is Based on Total Bet

The case is Wild West Gold. It is a 40-line slot, yet the start screen just says “Win up to 10,000x bet”. Here “bet” is not the amount on one line but the total bet shown in the “Bet” box at the bottom.

The difference is large. Playing Wild West Gold at a 2,000 KRW total bet puts 50 KRW on each line. If 10,000x were based on the line bet, the cap would be 500,000 KRW; because it is based on the total bet, the cap is 20 million KRW. So read the max win as “up to this many times everything I staked on this spin”.

Rule 2. The Round Ends the Moment You Hit the Cap

Gates of Olympus rules page 6 stating the max win is 5000x bet and the round ends immediately when reached, bet 2,000 KRW
Page 6 of the Gates of Olympus rules. The last paragraph is the max win and round end rule. Source: Pragmatic Play official demo screen capture

Open the info (i) button in the Gates of Olympus demo and go to page 6 and you find this: “The maximum win amount is limited to 5000x bet. If the total win of a round reaches 5000x bet the round immediately ends, win is awarded up to the cap and all remaining features are forfeited.”

Two points matter. First, the cap applies per “round”, not per spin. If 15 free spins count as one round, the total won across all 15 cannot exceed the cap. Second, when the cap is hit the round stops on the spot, however many free spins are left.

Rule 3. The Ante Bet Changes the Number

On the same Gates of Olympus, we switched on the ante bet on the left. As page 3 of the rules explains, the bet multiplier goes from 20x to 25x, so the bet at the bottom changes from 2,000 to 2,500 KRW. Reopen page 6 and the max win sentence now reads “4000x bet”.

Rules screen with the ante bet on (“on” at left). Bet 2,500 KRW, max win shown as “4000x bet”. Source: Pragmatic Play official demo screen capture

Convert to money and the reason is clear. With ante off the cap is 2,000 KRW x 5,000 = 10 million KRW; with ante on it is 2,500 KRW x 4,000 = 10 million KRW. The cap in money is the same, just restated against a bet that is 25% bigger. How the ante bet works is covered in the wiki entry Ante Bet.

Rule 4. The Bonus Buy Price Is Not the Basis

The Gates of Olympus free spins buy costs “100x the current base bet”, as page 3 of the rules says. Yet the max win sentence still says “5000x bet”, and the bet it refers to is the 2,000 KRW at the bottom. The 10 million KRW cap equals 50 times the 200,000 KRW buy price.

So when you buy a bonus, “up to 5,000x” does not mean 5,000 times the buy price. The history of bonus buys and their RTP is covered in Bonus Buy Explained.

Rule 5. The Same 5,000x Can Have Very Different Odds

How often the max win lands is usually not published. Pragmatic Play demos, however, receive game info from the server at start-up, and it includes the max win multiplier (max_rnd_win) and its hit rate (max_rnd_hr). The demo resources contain a rules sentence template that fills in these two values: “The maximum theoretical win in this game is {0} with a chance to hit of 1 in {1} spins”. The game code shows it only when a jurisdiction setting is on. In the demo AI Slot checked (jurisdiction setting 99) it did not appear on screen, so we read the values straight from the server response.

Gates of Olympus and Sugar Rush both cap at 5,000x. But Gates of Olympus is 1 in 697,350 spins and Sugar Rush 1 in 2,340,000, a gap of about 3.4 times. Big Bass Bonanza, with a lower cap of 2,100x, is 1 in 3,880,481, rarer than both. A lower cap does not make it easier to reach.

Rule 6. As the Cap Grows, the Odds Shrink Much Faster

The “win up to 25,000x bet” line on the Sweet Bonanza 1000 start screen. Source: Pragmatic Play official demo screen capture

The original Gates of Olympus is 5,000x at 1 in 697,350 spins. Gates of Olympus 1000 triples the cap to 15,000x and becomes about 3.9 times rarer at 1 in 2,749,771. Gates of Olympus Super Scatter goes to 50,000x, ten times the original, but at 1 in 666,666,667 it is about 956 times rarer. The 25,000x of Sweet Bonanza 1000 is 1 in 71,428,571.

Some games also carry a separate value for the ante. Sweet Bonanza 1000 is 1 in 47,619,048 with ante and Gates of Olympus Super Scatter 1 in 294,117,647, so by the server values the max win comes more often with ante on. The 1000 series and Super Scatter designs are covered in the wiki entries 1000 Series and Super Scatter.

Rule 7. Max Win and Volatility Are Not the Same Thing

Look again at the Wild West Gold start screen in the hero image. Right next to “Win up to 10,000x bet” it shows “low volatility”. The Gates of Olympus start screen, with a 5,000x cap, shows “medium volatility”. Max win is a single point at the far end of the distribution; volatility describes how evenly wins arrive day to day. They are related, but one does not settle the other.

On the whole, though, there is a clear correlation. Splitting the 2,864 games in AI Slot’s data that have published volatility, the median max win is 4,000x for low (418 games), 5,000x for medium (988) and 10,000x for high (1,458). The concept is explained in the wiki entry Volatility, and a list of high volatility games is in High Volatility Slots Top 10.

Rule 8. A Max Win Is Not a Jackpot

The last game in the case file, Tombstone Slaughter: El Gordo’s Revenge, was released by Nolimit City on 28 January 2025 with a max win of “500,000x the base bet”. However large the number, it is a fixed multiple capped in proportion to the bet.

Jackpots work differently. Pragmatic’s demo resources also contain another version of the max win rule: “The maximum win amount is limited to {0}x bet except Jackpot.” In games with a jackpot, the jackpot amount sits outside this multiplier cap. The wiki entry Max Win vs Jackpot compares the two in detail.

Max Win Distribution in AI Slot Data

As of 1 November 2026, AI Slot’s game data lists 3,743 games, and we counted the 3,701 that have a max win value. The values are the official max wins published by each provider. The overall median is 6,091x, the lower quartile 3,000x and the upper quartile about 11,910x. 1,574 games (42.5%) are 10,000x or more, and 32 reach 100,000x or more.

The table lists 8 of the providers with at least 80 counted games, sorted by median. The range within each provider is wide, though. Habanero has a low median but its top game reaches 174,238x, and Pragmatic Play’s median is 5,000x while its top is 180,000x.

By release year, caps have grown steadily. The median by release date was 1,355.5x in 2016 (110 games), 4,000x in 2019 (213), 5,000x in 2020 (273), 6,759x in 2021 (336) and 7,068.5x in 2022 (356), and from 2023 to 2026 (including scheduled releases) it has been 10,000x every year. Rankings by max win continue in RTP and Max Win Slot Rankings.

How to Check It in a Demo

For the max win, the rules screen inside the game you are actually running is more reliable than any number on a website or review. Check it in AI Slot’s free demos in this order.

  1. Read the “win up to X bet” line on the start screen.
  2. Press the info (i) button and page through the rules for the “max win is X times bet” sentence. In Pragmatic games it is usually on the settings menu page near the end.
  3. Multiply the “Bet” amount at the bottom of the screen by that multiple to get the cap in money. Do not divide by the number of lines.
  4. Turn on the ante bet and reopen the same page. If the multiple has changed, multiply it by the new bet and check whether the cap in money stays the same.

Within what we checked, we found no official document in which a regulator requires the max win multiple itself to be lowered. As covered in The Truth About RTP Versions, the same game can be configured differently depending on where it runs, so the safe habit is to confirm the number on the rules screen of the game you are running.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is a 10,000x max win based on the line bet or the total bet?

The total bet. Pragmatic Play’s rules screens call the total bet shown at the bottom the “bet” and state the max win as a multiple of it.

What happens to the remaining free spins if I hit the max win during the bonus?

They are lost. Pragmatic Play’s rules screens say that when a round’s total win reaches the cap, the round ends immediately, the win is paid up to the cap and all remaining features are forfeited.

Does turning on the ante bet reduce the max win?

The multiple can drop, but the cap in money stays the same. In Gates of Olympus the ante makes the bet 1.25 times larger and the rules screen cap changes from 5,000x to 4,000x.

Where can I find the probability of hitting the max win?

Most games do not publish it. Pragmatic Play games carry the value in the game info the server sends, and in some jurisdictions it is shown on screen as “1 in X spins”.
