“We always liked what we made with The Crypt and The Crypt 2, so we said let’s go one more time.” These are the words of Per Lindheimer, Nolimit City’s product owner. Ding Dong Death, released on September 22, is a new game in the The Crypt family. It shares the same bloodline, but he said they changed quite a lot.
The setting is a class reunion. The Reaper has gathered familiar faces from Nolimit games and hung their memories on the wall. Characters from Mental, Fire In The Hole, Blood & Shadow, Das xBoot, and San Quentin xWays have been invited. In the words of the announcement, these are guests who “should have stayed uninvited.”
The Death Meter that opens every third cascade
The heart of this game is the 5-level Death Meter. It works in both the base game and the bonus. Each time three cascades occur, where symbols pop and new ones drop, the meter opens one level. When a level opens, one designated character symbol turns entirely into wilds until that round ends.

Opening all 5 slots starts the total win multiplier at 2x, and it rises by 1 each time you open again. One of three features may follow. One turns a low symbol into a Mental Patient symbol, one turns a character wild into an xSplit Wild, and one turns it into an xNudge Wild. When a feature fires, stage 5 locks again. The announcement described this as “back to the waiting room.”
The xSplit Wild splits every symbol in its row into two. It’s a device that makes the number of positions on the board grow in an instant. A board that started at “729 ways” on screen sees its combinations swell the more it splits.
When an xSplit Wild splits an xNudge Wild, the xNudge Wild’s multiplier doubles. This is a formula built so that the two features from Death Meter stage 5 mesh together. A board where the Death Meter has opened all five slots has all five character types turned into wilds, so adding xSplit on top covers most of the board with split wilds.
x-Nudge wilds that pick up multipliers as they drop
The xNudge Wild is a long-standing Nolimit device. When a wild lands, it moves down to the bottom slot, and the multiplier rises by 1 for each symbol it passes. Once it reaches the bottom, it expands across the whole reel, and as it expands upward, only the split symbols it covers raise the multiplier further.

When several xNudge Wilds stand side by side, their multipliers are added. However, that multiplier only applies to wins that include an xNudge Wild. The announcement put it as “deadly simple. Almost.”
The higher up the slot an xNudge Wild lands, the better. Dropping from the top passes many symbols, so the multiplier gets large. Landing just above the bottom stops it at 1-2x. The 80x xNudge booster skips this math and starts every slot at a 6x multiplier.
"Knock knock, who’s there?"
Knock Knock is a rescue feature that fires on spins with no win. It triggers when three or more of the same symbol line up side by side horizontally but there is no win. The lined-up symbols disappear and a Mental Patient symbol takes the center spot. If there was a multiplier on that spot, it carries over as well.

The Mental Patient symbol is a familiar face for Nolimit fans. The patients from the original Mental have come straight over. This symbol survives Knock Knock explosions and also appears through the Mental Patient feature at Death Meter level 5. With both features sharing the same symbol, one type of symbol keeps growing on the board.
What comes next is big. All symbols except scatters, wilds, and Mental Patients explode off the board and a new cascade begins. A board that would have ended with nothing turns into a new board. As cascades continue, the Death Meter opens too. That’s why Lindheimer said “Knock Knock keeps the board going.”
A bonus where the meter never resets
Three, four, or five scatters open 7, 9, or 11 Ding Dong spins. In this bonus, the Death Meter and global multiplier are not reset when the spin changes. Characters turned into wilds stay wild throughout the bonus. The higher the meter climbs, the more the board fills with wilds. Each scatter that lands adds one spin.

In the base game, the Death Meter returns to the start when the board ends. That’s why the no-reset rule in the bonus matters so much. Even in a 7-spin Ding Dong Spin, if you raise the meter high early, you keep spinning boards full of wilds for the rest of your spins.
Six scatters give 13 Ding Dong Death spins. All Ding Dong spin features are switched on, and each time a meter level opens, the global multiplier rises by 1. The multiplier of an x-Nudge wild that takes part in a win is also added to the global multiplier. The announcement said, “Death really keeps on giving.”
There are five boosters. The Bonus Booster raises bonus chances 3x for 2x your bet, purchases at 50x, 100x, and 200x guarantee Death Meter levels 3, 4, and 5, and the x-Nudge Booster at 80x starts you with a 6x multiplier on every spot. You can also buy X-tra Spin, which takes your Death Meter and multiplier into one more spin after the round ends.

The xtra Spin price is set by the Death Meter stage and multiplier. If the board ended with the meter opened high, it costs that much more. The purchase screen only appears when the price is at or below that board’s win. There’s also the Death Booster, which Lindheimer mentioned separately. He described it as a bet where an xNudge that keeps knocking on the door remains, and in the announcement’s booster list, the xNudge booster comes closest to this.
What it shares with The Crypt, and what is different
The backbone of The Crypt series was a structure where the board changes as cascades pile up. Ding Dong Death carries that backbone forward, opening the meter every three cascades. In Lindheimer’s words, “the Crypt DNA is still all there.” The difference is where the wilds come from. This time the character symbols themselves turn into wilds according to the meter, so the base game produces wilds in large numbers too.
Knock Knock and X-tra Spin are features that keep the chain from breaking. When there is no win, the board is reshuffled, and after the round ends you carry your meter into one more go. The whole game is designed to keep meter levels and multipliers alive for as long as possible.
14,280x, extremely high volatility
Max win is 14,280x the base bet. Nolimit classifies the volatility as “extremely high.” That is a lower number than The Crypt’s 27,000x, but because the Death Meter keeps reopening, it is “almost endless” in Lindheimer’s words. RTP is 96.08%.
The screen is striking too, using only fluorescent green on a black and white backdrop. Lindheimer said, “the art team really nailed it this time.” If you have played The Crypt series, it is worth comparing side by side with The Crypt 2. Unlike Nolimit’s earlier Outsourced 2 – Balkan Engineering, darkness comes before laughs this time.
