Duo Fu Duo Cai Slots Part 1 – The Birth of Asia’s Top Casino Slot and Its 4-Level Jackpot
Duo Fu Duo Cai is the busiest slot machine in Macau casinos. This guide covers the origins of the series, which began in Macau in 2012, the meaning of its name, the All Ways and gold symbol structure, and the four-tier Fu Babies jackpot.

Key takeaways
- Duo Fu Duo Cai is a linked series in which multiple machines grow a single jackpot together, and it debuted in Macau in 2012.
- It was developed by SHFL, passed through Bally and Scientific Games, and is now made by Light & Wonder.
- All 243 ways are open even at the minimum bet, and raising your bet unlocks the high-paying gold symbols one by one.
- Among the 12 gold coins, match 3 of the same Fu Baby first to win one of the Mini, Minor, Major, or Grand jackpots.
In the slot area of Macau casinos, there is one row of machines that always draws a crowd. A golden bowl floats over a red screen, and four chubby baby characters each guard one jackpot amount. Regulars at Asian casinos call it the “final boss”: Duo Fu Duo Cai (多福多财). In Part 1, we cover where Duo Fu Duo Cai came from, how it works, and why it has been loved for so long.
Duo Fu Duo Cai is not a single game but a ‘series’
Duo Fu Duo Cai is not the name of a single game. It is the name of a ‘linked series’ in which multiple slots grow one jackpot together. The Duo Fu Duo Cai machines in the same casino put a portion of each bet into a shared jackpot pot and grow it together. As a result, the jackpot builds up much faster and bigger than on a single-machine slot.
Individual games such as 88 Fortunes, 5 Treasures, Diamond Eternity, and Dancing Drums sit on top of this link. The screens and free games differ from game to game, but the jackpots all look to the same vault. We cover the differences between games in Part 2.
It started in Macau in 2012

Duo Fu Duo Cai was made from the start to target Macau players. It was developed by SHFL Entertainment (formerly Shuffle Master) and debuted in Macau in mid-2012 with 88 Fortunes and 5 Treasures. The head of development said it was a game made with “Macau in mind first.”
The response was quick. Inside Asian Gaming, an Asian casino industry magazine, named Duo Fu Duo Cai the “Best Progressive Slot” in both 2013 and 2014. In 2014 alone, about 1,800 machines were installed in Asia, and the series spread to 20 countries across 4 continents.
In the meantime, the company’s owner changed several times. SHFL was acquired by Bally Technologies in 2013, Bally was acquired by Scientific Games in 2014, and Scientific Games renamed itself Light & Wonder in 2022. That is why the latest Duo Fu Duo Cai in casinos today carries the Light & Wonder logo.
Good wishes in the name and artwork
Duo Fu Duo Cai (多福多财) means ‘abundant fortune and abundant wealth.’ The game’s name itself is a Chinese blessing.
The artwork points in the same direction. The background is lucky red, the decoration is gold, and the reels feature auspicious symbols such as gold ingots, gold coins, turtles, and dragons. The most eye-catching one is the bat. It is an unwelcome animal in Korea, but in Chinese the word for bat (蝠) sounds the same as fortune (福), making it a symbol of good luck. That is why the wild in Duo Fu Duo Cai is a golden Fu Bat.
The number 8 is hidden throughout as well. In Chinese, 8 (八) sounds similar to 發, meaning “to get rich,” so it is considered the luckiest number. This is why the flagship title is called 88 Fortunes and why the bet levels are built in multiples of 8.
How the machine works
243 ways and All Up

The base screen is 5 reels by 3 rows with 243 ways. There are no fixed paylines: matching symbols on consecutive reels starting from the first reel on the left win regardless of position. On top of this comes the ‘All Up’ system. All 243 ways are open even at the minimum bet, so betting less does not reduce your chances of winning.
Gold symbols

Raising your bet does more than increase the amount. High-paying symbols turn “gold” one by one. Gold symbols pay more than regular symbols, and the number of gold symbols unlocked also changes which jackpot tiers you can aim for. To win the Grand jackpot, you have to light up every gold symbol. That is why “how many golds did you get?” is a common question on the casino floor.
The heart of Duo Fu Duo Cai, the Fu Baby jackpot

Four jackpots climb in real time above the screen. From the bottom up they are Mini (green), Minor (blue), Major (purple), and Grand (red), and one Fu Baby guards each tier.
The jackpot game starts at random when a wild lands. On screen, coins fill up a golden bowl and then the lid closes. Then 12 gold coins spread out, and each time the player picks one, a Fu Baby hidden behind it appears. If the same Fu Baby appears 3 times first, you win the jackpot for that tier. Once you enter the jackpot game, you are guaranteed to win one of the four tiers.
This scene is the real charm of Duo Fu Duo Cai. Every time a gold coin is picked, even the people next to you hold their breath, and when the Grand baby shows up twice, the mood changes. It is a game you play alone, but everyone ends up watching together.
Why it’s the “final boss”
The reason is simple. It aims precisely at the culture (the name, red, 8, bats), it is easy enough for beginners to understand right away (All Ways), there is a visible reason to raise your bet (gold symbols), and the jackpot scene becomes a spectacle (the Fu Babies pick). On top of that, new games have kept being added on the same jackpot for more than 10 years, so regulars always found a new game within familiar rules.
