“When you think of Monopoly, most people picture Mr. Monopoly. So we built this game around him.” These are the words of Nick Robinson, founder of Big Time Gaming (BTG). Announced in Sydney, Australia on October 14, MONOPOLY Money is indeed a game driven from start to finish by that old gentleman in the top hat.
BTG’s history with Monopoly is already long. In January alone, Monopoly Rush Hour, Monopoly Deluxe, and Monopoly Tapcards came out back to back, followed in March by the jackpot-style Monopoly Megapots. MONOPOLY Money is the latest in this run, and the developer itself introduced it as the follow-up to Rush Hour.
The very term Megaways came from BTG. First introduced in 2016 with Bonanza, this mechanic has since become an industry standard that many developers license. Monopoly is Hasbro’s board game brand, and BTG has released five games under this license this year alone.
Spreading a round of the board game across the reels
The base framework is Megaways, BTG’s signature mechanic. The height of the 6 reels changes on every spin, and wins can form in up to 117,649 ways. BTG itself classifies the volatility as very high. That means this isn’t a game that pays small wins often; it’s a game where a single feature decides the round.
There’s a reason behind the number 117,649, too. With six reels and up to seven symbols on each, you get 7 to the 6th power, exactly 117,649 combinations. Conversely, on spins where only two or three symbols land per reel, the number of ways drops sharply to a few hundred. Within the same game, the size of the board swings this much from spin to spin.
Three kinds of cards you’d recognize from the board game drop onto the reels: Title Deeds, Community Chest, and Chance cards. All three act as bonus symbols, and when six or more land anywhere on screen, Hold & Spin, the heart of this game, opens.
Mr. Monopoly only buys properties cheaper than himself
When Hold & Spin starts, each cell spins like its own reel. Here, Mr. Monopoly’s rule is interesting. He only buys Title Deeds equal to or lower than his current worth, and his worth rises by the amount he buys. At first he can only afford cheap properties, but as his worth grows, he can reach for more expensive ones.
Progress is tracked with three money bags. Every spin that brings no new card costs you one bag, and collecting even one card refills them to three. It’s the familiar 3-respin reset structure of Hold & Spin dressed up as money bags. Robinson explained, “The tension comes from watching him climb toward the expensive properties.”
A Chance card’s restart is effectively Passing Go
The Community Chest card pays a bonus prize of up to 2,500x the bet when the round ends. The Chance card stays on screen until the end, then turns into either a credit prize or a restart. The credit prize is added to Mr. Monopoly’s worth, giving him room to buy more expensive properties.
The restart is the highlight of this game. It clears the screen but leaves Mr. Monopoly’s worth intact, then runs the round again from the beginning. Robinson compared it to “Passing Go.” Anyone who has played the board game will understand the mechanic right away. On top of that, collecting Title Deeds in all eight colors adds another Monopoly bonus of up to 2,500x.
What makes this structure clever is that it spreads out the risk. Community Chest is the safe card that pays a guaranteed prize at the end, while Chance is the card where you don’t know until the end whether it becomes credits or a restart. It has the same tension as flipping a Chance card in the board game. Within the same round, a guaranteed reward and a gamble-like reward run side by side.
There is no ceiling on the free spins multiplier
Three or more scatters start 12 free spins, and each extra scatter adds 2 more. Mr. Monopoly appears with a value of up to 15x the bet and stays on screen for the whole round. Each time he collects a Title Deed, the Megaways win multiplier goes up by 1, and according to the official announcement, there is no cap.
If five or more cards land at once during free spins, Hold & Spin opens in the middle of the round, and three or more scatters add 4 more spins. The final worth Mr. Monopoly has collected is paid out all at once after the last free spin ends. All twelve free spins become one big round that grows his worth.
Robinson pointed this out as well. “In free spins, everything he collects feeds into a multiplier that never stops.” If Hold & Spin is the game that grows his worth, free spins is the game where that worth and the multiplier grow at the same time. The max win of 29,700x effectively points to the moment these two axes line up together.

The RTP is 96.58%, exactly the same as Rush Hour. The max win is nearly the same too, at 28,600x and 29,700x. The difference between the two games comes not from the numbers but from the character of the features. If Rush Hour was about speed and movement, Money is closer to the original fun of the board game, buying up properties.
Power Play and bonus buy
BTG’s Power Play costs 8x your bet. In return, it guarantees at least 10,000 Megaways on every spin and makes max Megaways, Hold & Spin, and free spins trigger more often. If you want to jump straight into a feature, bonus buy lets you buy Hold & Spin for 60x your bet and 12 free spins for 90x. Depending on your region, the buy feature may be blocked.
Power Play’s 8x is by no means cheap. However, in Megaways games, spins that produce few ways have a lower chance of winning at all, and the guaranteed minimum of 10,000 Megaways is a device that lifts that floor. Since feature frequency rises too, you get the option of lowering your bet size and turning Power Play on. Alternating between the two modes in the free demo makes the difference clear.
BTG lately
BTG has been especially busy this year. In March, Millionaire Megapots and Monopoly Megapots, and in May Fruit Merge Megapots, widened the jackpot-style Megapots line, and in June came Monster Quest with a max win of 99,900x. In September, Extra Chilli More Chilli, the follow-up to a flagship title, returned with 30,000x.
Meanwhile, MONOPOLY Money has no jackpot such as a Megapot, and no cap close to 100,000x. Instead, it ties Hold & Spin and free spins together through a single character. It reads as BTG taking a step away from number-chasing and toward character-led games.
Monopoly slots are now a genre of their own
BTG isn’t the only one making Monopoly-licensed slots. Several providers are putting out different takes on the same brand, such as Red Tiger’s MONOPOLY Rent Rush and NetEnt’s MONOPOLY Money Line. Even within BTG’s own lineup alone, the range of max multipliers is wide.
| Games | RTP | Max win |
|---|---|---|
| Monopoly Rush Hour | 96.58% | 28,600x |
| Monopoly Tapcards | 96.49% | 30,000x |
| Monopoly Deluxe | 96.84% | 49,920x |
| Monopoly Megapots | 96.45% | 98,850x |
| MONOPOLY Money | 96.58% | 29,700x |
MONOPOLY Money’s 29,700x is in the same range as Rush Hour. This isn’t a game that competes on numbers; the point to watch is how convincingly the board game’s rules have been turned into slot features. Buying properties, opening Community Chest, and starting over with Chance closely resembles an actual round of Monopoly.
In numbers, the RTP is up to 96.58%, the max win is 29,700x the bet, and the volatility is very high. As a game with big swings, if you’re new to it, it’s best to start with the AI Slot free demo to see how Hold & Spin plays out. More BTG games are in our Big Time Gaming free slots collection.
