Overview

ELK Studios is a slot development studio that launched in Stockholm, Sweden in 2012. It has a team of more than 130 people and holds licenses from the UK’s UKGC, Malta’s MGA, and the Swedish Gambling Authority. X-iter

X-iter is a feature that lets players pick one of several preset game modes and jump straight in. It widens the usual “bonus buy” concept: besides an option to go straight into the bonus, it offers several choices at different prices, such as modes that raise the chance of triggering the bonus. In Pirots, for example, you can choose anything from a “Bonus Hunt” at 3x your bet to a “Super Bonus Game” at 500x. In jurisdictions where bonus buy is banned, this feature is removed.

CollectR

This is the core mechanic of the Pirots series. Instead of winning on lines or ways, four birds (parrots) of different colors collect gems matching their own color to earn payouts.

Pirots series

ELK’s flagship series, in which a band of parrot pirates hunts for treasure. Four birds – blue, green, purple, and red – collect gems of their own color, and when gems disappear, new ones drop in a chain. When a “Grid Expander” symbol pops, the grid grows up to 8×8, and feature symbols appear such as coin wins (up to 1,000x), wilds, and symbol upgrades and transformations. Collecting 3 bonus symbols awards 5 “Free Drops.”

Pirots 5 adds a transforming villain, Captain Blackfeather, traps such as arrow launchers, boulders, and secret doors, a catacomb exploration fighting mummies, and an 8×8 “Cursed Temple Coin Game.”

History

Development philosophy: math comes first

ELK Studios’ motto is “quality over quantity, always mobile first.” What stands out is that it designs the math model and volatility first, before any art is drawn. It decides the game’s probability structure first, then adds the theme and presentation so that structure feels fun. As a result, every feature in an ELK game has a clear role in the probabilities.

Betting strategy features

ELK games include a “Betting Strategy” feature that automatically adjusts your bet amount. It is a rare feature among other providers.
