Overview

Gaming Realms is a game company headquartered in London, UK. It is listed on the London Stock Exchange’s Alternative Investment Market (AIM), and its CEO is Mark Segal. The company’s core asset is Slingo, a game that combines slots and bingo.

History of Slingo

PeriodDetails
1994Sal Palchiglia Sr., a New Jersey real estate developer in the US, devised Slingo and founded the company
1996First unveiled on the US online service AOL
July 2015Sold to Gaming Realms by its then owner RealNetworks for about 18 million dollars
AfterwardReleased a variety of Slingo games such as “Slingo Originals”, combined with other providers’ brands

How Slingo works

Slingo consists of a 5×5 bingo card and 5 reels beneath it. You spin the reels a set number of times (usually 10 to 20), and if a number that lands on a reel matches a number in the same column of the card above, it is marked off. Each time you complete a row, column or diagonal line, it counts as a “Slingo”, and the more Slingos you get, the bigger the payout.

Special symbolsRole
JokerLets you pick and mark off one number in that column
Super JokerCan mark off any one number on the card
DevilEffects that reduce your score or work against you
CherubBlocks the devil effect

In many games, after you use up the set spins you can pay to buy extra spins. The price of extra spins varies with the current situation, and gets more expensive the closer you are to completing the card. Extra spins often have a low expected value, so it is wise to be careful.

Licensing business

Gaming Realms has released many games that turn other providers’ popular slot brands into the Slingo format. For example, it applies the theme and symbols of a well-known slot to a Slingo card. It licenses these games to casinos in various markets such as the UK, US and Malta, and also runs a free-to-play social gaming business. A distinctive point is that one company effectively leads this unique genre that combines slots and bingo (bingo).
