Overview
Relax Gaming is an online casino game company founded in Malta in 2010 by Patrik Österåker and Jani Tekoniemi. It is both a developer that makes its own slots and an aggregator that supplies other studios’ games to operators in one package. In its early days it also made poker and bingo products.
Based in Malta, it has offices in Estonia, Sweden, and Serbia, and had about 240 employees as of 2021. It holds licenses from Malta MGA, the UK Gambling Commission, Alderney, and Romania.
History
Kindred acquisition and ownership structure
Kindred, the Swedish online gaming group (operator of Unibet), had held a 33.4% stake in Relax since 2013. In July 2021, Kindred announced it would buy the remaining 66.6%. The whole company was valued at €320 million, with an upfront payment of €80 million plus additional payments based on 2022-2023 performance, for a total of up to €295 million. After the acquisition, Kindred held 93% and management 7%. At the time, Relax had annual revenue of €25 million and EBITDA of €10 million.
Later, the French lottery company FDJ completed its acquisition of Kindred for about €2.45 billion in 2024 and renamed the company “FDJ United” in 2025, so Relax now belongs to the FDJ United group.
Business model
In-house studios
It makes its own slots such as Money Train, Temple Tumble, and Iron Bank. Most of them are high volatility games aiming for a big max win.
Powered by Relax
A partner program in which Relax distributes a smaller studio’s games to operators under its own license and platform when that studio would find it hard to obtain a license directly. Several new studios have entered the market through this program.
Silver Bullet platform
A game distribution platform built by Relax itself. An operator integrates once and receives both Relax games and partner studio games together. Operators such as Unibet, Rizk Casino, and LeoVegas are among its main customers.
Top slots
Money Train series
This is Relax’s signature series. Themed around a Wild West train robbery, its core is the “Money Cart” bonus, where various feature symbols pile up during the bonus. Money Train 4 has more than 20 features and a max of 150,000x, which Relax billed as “the final destination of the train that shook up the industry.” There are also reports that Money Train 5 followed in 2026.
Temple Tumble
Temple Tumble Megaways, which carries a Megaways license from Big Time Gaming, has a structure where blocks break and ways increase, reaching up to 46,656 ways. Its follow-up, Temple Tumble 2, also came out in a Dream Drop jackpot version.
Other popular titles
Iron Bank 2, Beast Mode, Book of Power, Snake Arena, Volatile Viking 2, Wild Chapo, and others are known titles.
Dream Drop Jackpot
Dream Drop is Relax’s progressive jackpot network, launched in May 2022. Its defining feature is a “guaranteed” structure: when you enter the Dream Drop feature in a game, one of the five tiers is always won.
| Step | Starting amount |
|---|---|
| Rapid | €1 |
| Midi | €5 |
| Maxi | €100 |
| Major | €25,000 |
| Mega | €1 million (cap of €10 million) |
The Mega jackpot’s starting amount rises by €500,000 each time it hits twice, and it can grow up to €10 million. In its first year alone, more than 2 million jackpots were paid out, including 8 Mega winners. The top first-year win was about €2.4 million on Temple Tumble 2 Dream Drop. In 2024 alone, €17.1 million was paid out, and on January 1, 2025, a Paraguayan player won about €2.98 million on Billionaire’s Dream Drop with a €2 bet, the 19th Mega jackpot. In 2025, a “Daily Jackpot” that is guaranteed to hit once a day was also added.
Megaphase
In June 2021, Relax teamed up with Big Time Gaming, the creator of Megaways, to launch “MegaPhase,” a tiered progressive jackpot. The first game to use it was BTG’s Bonanza.
Headquarters
Headquartered in Malta, with offices in Estonia, Sweden, and Serbia as well.
