Overview
Red Tiger (Red Tiger Gaming) is a slot developer founded in 2014 by industry veterans. It is based in Malta, the Isle of Man, and Bulgaria, and its UK Gambling Commission (UKGC) license number is 54571. It now has more than 300 slots.
What represents Red Tiger is its “Daily Jackpot.” It put must-drop jackpots front and center early on, and it also released many Megaways games after getting a Megaways license from Big Time Gaming early. It was acquired by NetEnt in 2019, and when Evolution acquired NetEnt in 2020, it became a slot brand of the Evolution group.
History
NetEnt’s acquisition
On September 5, 2019, NetEnt announced it would acquire Red Tiger. The deal was £197 million upfront plus up to £23 million more based on 2022 results, giving an enterprise value of £223 million, about 12 times that year’s expected EBITDA (£18 million). The acquisition was financed with loans from Danske Bank and Nordea. Red Tiger had about 170 employees at the time.
The following year, Evolution acquired NetEnt, and Red Tiger joined the Evolution group as well. Evolution still runs Red Tiger as a separate brand alongside NetEnt, Big Time Gaming, and Nolimit City.
Daily Drop Jackpot
Red Tiger’s jackpots are defined by “guaranteed to hit within a set time.” A regular progressive jackpot could hit at any time, but with Red Tiger’s jackpots, someone is certain to win before the deadline.
| Jackpot | Method |
|---|---|
| Hourly Drop | Guaranteed to pay out every hour |
| Daily Drop | Guaranteed to pay out every day before 11 p.m. UK time |
| Mega Drop | Progressive jackpot where the amount keeps growing |

| Judgement Day Megaways | 2023.09 | – | 100,000x |
Gonzo’s Quest Megaways and Blood Suckers Megaways are Megaways remakes of NetEnt classics from the same group. The combination is possible because NetEnt’s originals and BTG’s Megaways both sit within the same Evolution group.
Red Tiger and the Evolution group
| Period | Relationship |
|---|---|
| 2014 | Launched as an Isle of Man based slot developer |
| 2019 | Acquired by NetEnt for up to £220 million-plus |
| 2020 | Red Tiger also joins the Evolution group as Evolution acquires NetEnt |
| Present | Operates as a slot studio of the Evolution group (same group as NetEnt, Big Time Gaming, and Nolimit City) |
Evolution was originally a live casino (live dealer) company, but after acquiring NetEnt, Red Tiger, Big Time Gaming, and Nolimit City in succession, it became one of the world’s largest slot groups. Red Tiger’s role within it is jackpots and Megaways-licensed games.
Megaways and remakes
Red Tiger is well known for licensing Megaways and remaking NetEnt classics as Megaways versions. Gonzo’s Quest Megaways is the prime example. Because it revives popular games from the same group with a new mechanic, it was well received by players who knew the originals.
Features of Red Tiger slots
| Item | Details |
|---|---|
| Jackpot | Daily Drop-style jackpots that must hit within a set time |
| Number of games | 300+ games, fast release pace |
| Theme | Wide variety, from Asian luck themes to adventure and classic remakes |
| Volatility | Medium-High |
Must-drop jackpots like Daily Drop draw interest because they are “guaranteed to hit today.” Keep in mind, though, that who wins is random, and the base game’s return is adjusted by the amount contributed to the jackpot.
