History
Acquisitions and sales
Quickspin acquisition
In 2016, Playtech acquired the Swedish slot studio Quickspin for a total of €50 million. Quickspin still releases games under its own brand.
Snaitech and Flutter
In 2018, it bought a 70.6% stake in the Italian betting company Snaitech for €291 million, expanding into operations (B2C) as well. On May 2, 2025, it sold Snaitech to Flutter, the world’s largest online betting company, for €2.3 billion, and paid shareholders a special dividend of €5.73 per share, about €1.8 billion in total. Thanks to the gain from this sale, 2025 net profit came to €1,484.3 million. Since then, Playtech has focused more on its game supply (B2B) business.
Failed Aristocrat acquisition
In October 2021, Australian gaming machine company Aristocrat offered to acquire Playtech for $3.7 billion, but the deal fell through in July 2022 due to market conditions.

Business model
Playtech is a slot provider and, at the same time, a comprehensive technology company that sells almost everything needed to run an online casino.
| Field | Details |
|---|---|
| Casino platform | Account, payment, and game management systems used by operators (IMS, etc.) |
| Slots and RNG games | Own studios and subsidiaries such as Quickspin |
| Live casino | Live dealer games offered from studios in several European countries |
| Jackpot | Progressive jackpot network including Age of the Gods |
| Betting | Sports betting technology (before the Snaitech sale, direct operations in Italy) |
Because of this structure, Playtech does more than simply sell games. It also signs many contracts to run an operator’s entire business and share the revenue.
Playtech and the Isle of Man
Playtech started out in Tartu, Estonia, but is headquartered in Douglas on the Isle of Man. The reasons were low taxes, a stable legal system, and an online gaming ecosystem where companies such as Microgaming were already established. Its development staff are spread across several countries, including Estonia, Bulgaria, and Ukraine.
